IIDR’s Dr. Charu Kaushic named Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity

Dr. Charu Kaushic, professor of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and member of McMaster’s Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR), was recently named Scientific Director of the CIHR’s Institute of Infection and Immunity.

Many congratulations to IIDR’s Dr. Charu Kaushic on her recent appointment as Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III).

One of 13 CIHR Institutes, the CIHR-III supports Canadian research initiatives in the areas of infectious disease and immunology.

As Scientific Director, Dr. Kaushic will work closely with the infection and immunity research community to help identify research priorities, create funding opportunities, build partnerships, and support the translation of research evidence into policy. Addressing some of the world’s most pressing health issues – including antimicrobial resistance, HIV, and emerging infectious diseases – Dr. Kaushic will help position both McMaster University and Canada as global leaders at the forefront of health research-creation.

Dr. Kaushic is a professor and mucosal immunologist within McMaster’s Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, and a member of both the Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) and McMaster Immunology Research Centre (MIRC). With over 15 years of experience in the areas of immunology, HIV, and women’s reproductive health, Charu’s main research focus is on women’s susceptibility and immune response to HIV and other sexually transmitted pathogens.
