A Royal Visit

McMaster University and the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Margariet of the Netherlands and her husband Pieter van Vollenhoven on their visit to Canada, Monday May 15th. After attending a seminar series on the topic of antimicrobial resistance hosted by Dr. Gerry Wright the director of the McMaster IIDR, they were given a tour of the core laboratory facilities. Included in the tour was a look at the Centre for Microbial Chemical Biology (CMCB), which is a state of the art laboratory housing much of the essential equipment needed for chemical biology research here at McMaster.

This was Princess Margriet’s second visit to McMaster University, as she received an honourary degree in 2012, for her lifelong commitment to international humanitarian work.
