IIDR & DBCAD Undergraduate Summer Student Fellowships

To encourage interest in infectious disease research and antimicrobial discovery, the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research and the David Braley Centre for Antibiotic Discovery provide 10 annual $4,000 awards to undergraduate students, supporting specialized work in IIDR labs during the summer practicum.

Program Overview

These highly competitive fellowships, established in 2013, are designed to stoke interest in infectious disease research in the next generation of scientists.

Undergraduate students who receive these awards will conduct research in the lab(s) of IIDR members throughout the spring/summer practicum, which runs from May to August.

While there are 10 awards available, five are reserved for antimicrobial-related research and the other five are reserved for broader infectious disease research endeavours.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

After the application period has been formally announced, the following documents must be submitted to the IIDR office (MDCL-2235), or emailed as a single PDF to iidr@mcmaster.ca:

  • A one-page outline of how your research project aligns with the topic of antibiotic discovery, the mitigation of antibiotic resistance, or infectious disease research. This document must be signed by your sponsoring principal investigator(s).
  • A copy of your résumé or CV
  • A copy of your unofficial transcript

The application period typically opens in mid-January and closes in early-March. Announcements of successful applications are made in April each year.
