IIDR Member Named Fellow by the American Academy of Microbiology

Dr. Eric Brown, professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences and an international authority in antibiotic drug discovery, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.

Fellows of the Academy are elected through a highly selective, peer-review process, based on their records of scientific achievement and original contributions in the field of microbiology.

Founded in 1955, the Academy has gone on to elect over 2,700 distinguished scientists from all subspecialties of microbiology, including basic and applied research, teaching, public health, industry, and government service.

“The Academy is a community I identify with,” says Dr. Brown, “and it’s really nice to be recognized in this way.”

As a newly elected Fellow, Dr. Brown will be formally recognized at the Academy Fellows Reception in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 17.

Dr. Brown is also the director of the Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program and Canada Research Chair in Chemical Microbial Biology.
